On 4th March, Coinscrum welcomes Cardano to the stage to introduce their recently launched Plutus & Marlowe Smart Contract tools.

The Plutus platform is a general purpose functional programming environment for third-generation blockchains, such as Cardano.

Plutus draws from modern language research to provide a safe, full-stack programming environment based on Haskell, the leading purely functional programming language.

Marlowe is a domain specific language that provides domain experts in functional contracts an accessible, domain-specific environment.

The team from Cardano are proud to present Plutus and Marlowe to the world and are keen to open up discussions with the broader development community and to get them involved in the future developments of the project, to share ideas and collaborate.

On the night, we welcome two speakers from Cardano’s primary R&D arm, IOHK, including Professor Simon Thompson and Michael Peyton-Jones.

///Michael Peyton-Jones – IOHK functional compilers engineer

Michael got into programming language design by relentlessly gravitating towards the point of greatest abstraction until someone threw a compiler at him. He cares about making programming languages beautiful and mathematical, but also ergonomic and usable. Michael has a first-class degree in mathematics and philosophy from the University of Oxford.

Michael will present a demo of Plutus Playground to the audience.

///Simon Thompson – Professor of Logic and Computation

Simon Thompson is a researcher, author and teacher, and professor of logic and computation at the University of Kent. His research into functional programming covers verification, tool-building and testing for Erlang, Haskell and OCaml.

He is the author of books on type theory, Haskell and Erlang, and runs a Mooc about Erlang for FutureLearn.

He works with IOHK on domain-specific languages for Cardano.

Simon will give an introduction to Marlowe, creating financial contracts on the blockchain.
